It has been one of those Mondays… non stop craziness and a million and one things to do… Yet I found myself gazing out the window of my office numerous times as I pounded away at the keyboard. It is an absolutely spectacular day here in NYC. No humidity, cooler temperatures, blue skies with clouds floating by, a slight chill and promise of fall in the air. The perfect September day. I was itching to get out and embrace the day.
So, after I crossed off a few of the things to do on my never ending list, I decided that today was too perfect to resist and I leashed up my faithful canine friend and headed out on one of our favorite walks down by the water along Riverside Park. We shared the path with a few cyclists, runners, other wandering souls and dog walkers.
It was a truly beautiful walk and the air was crisp and fresh. The trees are already turning a bit and losing their leaves, the boats are anchored in the harbor and being NYC, there was even a large yacht making its way toward larger water.
As I walked, enjoying the calm and the beauty of the day my thoughts began to drift to the significance of tomorrow’s date, September 11th. Eleven years ago, it was a beautiful day just like this one. I did not want to dwell on the past, but I couldn’t help but think how important it is to embrace the here and now. And so I am glad that I took a bit of a pause in my day to just enjoy the moment, to reflect and in some ways to remember. It is so very easy to get caught up in the chaos, but today I took the time to breathe. NYC, I adore you.
