This morning I had the joy of running with my youngest daughter and her “Girls on the Run” club as they completed their practice 5K run. Girls on the Run is an incredible program with this awesome mission statement: “We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running” and this vision: “We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams”. Absolutely incredible. Watching the girls as they dedicate two mornings a week coming together, sharing stories, helping each other, learning empowering lessons and becoming runners has truly been an inspiration to me in my own life. How can a person not be inspired by their continued efforts to push themselves, encourage each other and persevere with laughter and enthusiasm?

This morning the girls ran their longest distance ever- 5K!, in preparation for their upcoming race on June 15th on Randall’s Island where all of the Girls on the Run programs throughout the city will celebrate and run together.

It was truly a beautiful thing to be a part of and watch this morning. As the girls circled the track, they cheered each other on and resolved to keep moving forward. They worked as a team, supporting each and every girl to the finish. Not a negative word was spoken. We could learn a lot from these awesome young ladies as they strive to embody the Girls on the Run core values- EMPOWERMENT, RESPONSIBILITY, INTENTIONALITY, DIVERSITY, CONNECTEDNESS, JOY, OPTIMISM, GRATITUDE, NURTURING, HEALTHY, OPEN-HEARTED, COMPASSION.

So proud of each and every one of our incredibly strong, awesome and fierce GIRLS ON THE RUN!!! They all deserve a SUPERSTAR energy award 😉 GO Girls!!

Hope you enjoy the pics and can find your own little inspiration today! Happy Wednesday and don’t forget to keep on running…

P.S. You ROCK Casey and Yuna =) Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

Alright, I am waving a little white flag today. My allergies are kicking my butt, my head hurts and I haven’t slept well in the past few nights. I am tired. I am giving myself permission to “take a day”. Who am I kidding? I am actually giving myself a couple of hours. I have already got both girls up and ready for school, gone to a 7am Girls on the Run practice, a killer Soul Cycle class, ran a few errands, walked the dog and put in some laundry but now I am done. I am giving myself permission to chill out on the couch for a few hours before R’s baseball practice and picking up A from rehearsal and homework and dinner and… I know I will still feel a little guilty but I need it, so I am taking it. I am going to read my book, watch some crappy t.v. or maybe I will just nap. So, shhh… Happy Wednesday, hope your day is wonderful and I really, really, really hope you find some time for you! xoxo

Yes, we all suffered through the incredibly loooooong and cold winter and now it seems that spring is finally here to stay. This past weekend in NYC, it was one of those truly glorious weekends where the temperatures were warm and the sun was shining. The whole city seemed to awaken and greet the day with a new found energy and positive outlook. Even a couple of spontaneous rain showers could not dampen the spirit. I like to think of these weekends as the honeymoon stage. Before we start grumbling about how hot, muggy and sticky the weather is and how crowded with tourists the streets are, New Yorkers get out and really enjoy the city. We fall in love again with the beauty of our gorgeous metropolis as it glistens under a perfect blue sky.

Central Park is full of people lounging on the great lawn, dogs being walked along the paths, runners tracking miles in loops and trees in full bloom. The streets are crowded with young lovers walking hand in hand. Outdoor patios are teeming to the brink with people happily catching rays and sipping on expensive drinks. Playgrounds are filled with children running and laughing. The city is alive and it just feels good. Like a big sigh of relief and a sense of renewal. In this city you feed off the energy and you can do anything.

Although I am looking forward to the end of the school year and the lazy hazy days of summer, I have really come to appreciate the perfect spring weekend in Manhattan. When you wake up and the sun is shining, the city really is yours for the taking with so many options to explore and adventures that are waiting. It is this sense of excitement about the city that still makes me appreciate how lucky I am. Go forth and grab on to your latest adventure… There will be time to complain about the smell of urine and lack of adequate air conditioning later on 😉 Happy Monday and happy Spring Honeymoon New Yorkers!

This week is teacher appreciation week so it is fitting that today I had the opportunity to be a part of a Soul Cycle birthday celebration ride for one of our amazing and awesome teachers- Casey!!! We have been incredibly fortunate to have teachers that go above and beyond this year. Their awesomeness shines through in their love for the students, their creativity in the classroom and the positive energy that they generate throughout the school. It was so much fun sharing a little bit of love on the bike today for such a fabulous rockstar. Happy Birthday Casey and thank you to both you and Yuna!!!!! We appreciate you each and every day!

It is a perfectly miserable day in NYC. The rain is falling heavily, the wind is driving the rain sideways, the puddles are the size of small lakes and it is cold. The kind of day that makes you want to crawl back under the covers and stay there. Just as I was my mumbling about how crappy the weather was, my doorman Gil said “Hey, at least it’s not snow!” and just like that I thought “Damn, ain’t that the truth!”. Tiny things can turn the day around. Hope you can find something to keep positive about on this Wednesday, the last day of April. April showers bring flowers and all that jazz… 😉

I have to admit that one of the things that I absolutely love about NYC, is that Central Park is my backyard. It is where I run, take the dog for a walk, stroll across to get to the east side, watch my children play and find a little escape from the pace of Manhattan life. Today I had the chance to wander across the park and take pictures. It was a gorgeous spring day and the park was filled with tourists enjoying the views, locals relaxing on a bit of green space, cyclists, runners and basically anyone who was lucky enough to get out and stretch their legs on a sunny Friday afternoon. Here are the pics. I hope you enjoy them. Happy weekend everyone!!!

The girls and I had a fantastic week in Ottawa, it was great to re-connect with old friends and spend some time visiting some of our old haunts. But, I have to admit that I am very happy to be back in NYC where the weather is a little bit warmer and spring is well on its way. I love seeing the flowers sprouting up all around the city and shades of green in contrast with the concrete grey. Central Park is stunning right now. Allergies aside, it is wonderful to just get outside and really enjoy the warmth after such a long dreary winter. Here are some pics from the past few days. I hope you enjoy them. I am getting out the camera and will definitely be exploring the city in all of its spring glory. Happy Wednesday!!

The girls and I are having a blast spending Spring Break in Ottawa. Weather aside- snow in the middle of April!!!!, it has definitely been a trip down memory lane. The girls have not been back in almost three years and it is wonderful to watch their reactions and share experiences with them. We have visited the Canadian Museum of History, a place where we spent tons of hours passing time when they were little, a wave pool (something we do not have in NYC) and today a maple sugar shack in Quebec.

The Sucrerie de la Montagne is in Rigaud, Quebec. It is an old school maple sugar shack where they tap the trees without lines and bake bread in a monster brick oven. It is in a gorgeous location up in a mountain and is exactly the escape that we needed. After a tour of the facilities we ate a family style feast of pea soup, fresh bread, sausage, bacon, meat pie, ham, egg souffle, mashed potatoes and beans. For dessert there were pancakes with maple syrup and maple sugar pie. I probably should have run home 😉 We had a great time and may have bought a few treats to take back to the city.

Hope you enjoy the pics. I have to go and rest up for more eating and a trip to the sky zone (?!)
Happy Wednesday!! Here’s hoping Spring weather comes back for the break!

Today is an absolutely gorgeous spring day in NYC. The sun is shining, temperatures are climbing, patios are opening, warm jackets are being shed and people are smiling. It is wonderful. So good for the soul. It was also a perfect day to head out and get a little bit of spring shopping done. I cleaned out the closets yesterday, so I deserve it, right??!! The first thing on my list, believe it or not, was new running sneakers. So my friend Jess and I snuck in a fabulous brunch at The Smith and then headed to the New York Running Company in The Shops at Columbus Circle at the Time Warner Center. And while at the Columbus Circle shops we may have done some damage at a few other stores, shhh….

While at the Time Warner Center we happened upon a collection of eggs from the Faberge Big Egg Hunt. This egg hunt is currently going on in NYC and there are hundreds of eggs hidden all over the city. People are trying to find them all and of course there is fabulous faberge jewelry to be won. Today, under blue skies and heavenly sun, the eggs looked stunning. I took some pics. Hope you enjoy them and find some time to grab your own piece of sunshine!

Happy Wednesday!!!

Whoa… March certainly did come in like a lion, unfortunately it left like a lion too… so what the hell does that mean? Longest winter ever.

So, it was wonderful to wake up to the most beautiful April 1st yesterday. It really was like a breath of fresh air. March was also an incredibly intense and hectic month so I am very much looking forward to an April with a less crazy pace (hopefully) and enjoying some (hopefully) really wonderful spring like weather. Today it is cool and gloomy outside but I have decided to ignore it and post some fun spring-like pics. Hope you enjoy them… especially the one of the alligator in the Hudson River… just kidding although the piece of wood did give me pause to look twice. You never really know what you are going to see floating in the river, sometimes you don’t want to look toooo closely 😉

Happy Wednesday my friends, keep smiling! xox
