I love to read, it is one of my favorite all time activities. So, I am always on the lookout for a new book, something I can really delve into and escape for awhile. That is why I am soo excited that my friend Tim O’Mara’s new book “Sacrifice Fly” has just been released. It has been sitting pre-ordered on my Nook, taunting me… until yesterday when I was finally able to download it. YAY!! Now that the days are shorter and the nights are a bit cooler and seem a bit darker I am going to curl up on the couch with a cup of tea and get lost in this highly recommended new mystery (one of my fave genres)  that takes place in NYC. I suggest you do the same! Congratulations Tim!!!! Happy Wednesday everyone 😉

Love the book artwork

“Tim O’Mara’s Sacrifice Fly is the best first crime novel I’ve read in years. Knowing about the ways of city life and compassionate about its flawed characters, the writing has a swing as natural and strong as Roberto Clemente’s. It’s a real gem.”
—Peter Blauner, author of Slow Motion Riot and Slipping into Darkness

Will definitely be stopping by on Thursday at B&N on the UWS

“Tim O’Mara’s Sacrifice Fly is superb—one of those rare first novels that delivers on every level. Raymond Donne is an unforgettable character, and O’Mara will make you feel the steam coming off the Brooklyn streets where Donne works, lives, and tries to stay alive long enough to do the right thing. I can’t wait to read O’Mara’s next book—this newcomer is one to watch.”
—Jan Burke, bestselling author of Disturbance

And finally, here it is!! I am getting my cup of tea ready right now 😉

What a gorgeous spot!  All I kept thinking was… well that is definitely not something you would see in NYC! Hope you like the pictures, have a fabulous Wednesday!!

We arrived in beautiful Calgary a couple of hours ago. It is wonderful to be back in Canada, with cherished family and in the glorious fall season. There was even a light dusting of snow. Here are a few pics, we are definitely not in NYC 😉
Happy Wednesday.

Right now in our household we are beginning the process of figuring out the whole middle school application procedure for our oldest who will be entering 6th grade next year. In NYC this whole business is just as stressful as applying for a job or figuring out what University/College to attend. It involves tours, test scores, portfolios, interviews, school tests and auditions. And yes, this is for public school. So, we are approaching this with as much of a level head as possible, trying to keep our sense of humor and our perspective. After all, these kids are only 10! I will write in more detail about the whole shebang later on. But right now, I am off to do more research! Oh NYC…  Happy Wednesday. Keep calm and have some wine 😉

I have walked by the One Million Acts of Kindness bus (see pics below) a few times in the past couple of days and to be honest I haven’t ventured over to their website but I am sure I will. Instead, what it got me to think about was the simple act of just being nice. Thinking before you act and trying to be positive. In NYC, it is possible to come in contact with dozens, sometimes even hundreds of people a day. That kind of human interaction can be exhausting at the best of times. When I looked at the bus and read the inspirational quotes written on it, it inspired me to just be a little bit nicer as I went about my day. It really doesn’t take a lot of effort. With all of the crazy going on in the world today, just being nice to the people around us might go a long way to enjoying a happier state of being. At the very least, it just might make someone’s day 😉 On that note, have a fabulous day and be well. Happy Wednesday, S xo

We arrived back in NYC late yesterday afternoon. And while it is oh so good to be home, after a doctor’s appointment involving needles to the heel (damn Plantar Faciatis!), laundry and more laundry, cranky sleep deprived children and a PA meeting to look forward to this afternoon, I am really wishing I was still on the beach in sunny California. But, like all good things, vacation does need to come to an end! =) We had an amazing time in California and am looking forward to sharing our adventures and pictures with you soon in an upcoming blog but for today I thought I would share some pics of a miniature NYC done in Lego from Legoland California. The whole family got a kick out of seeing our hometown set out in perfect little Lego detail, it really is an incredible thing to see. Hope you enjoy the pics. Happy Wednesday y’all!! Side note: Can’t help the “y’all” because I watched episode after episode of “The Closer” on the plane- such a good show!!!

The other day I was walking on the Upper East Side when I stopped to peer in and look at one of the teeniest of tiniest apartments I had ever seen in NYC. Now, I know that real estate and space is at a premium in this city but this a wee bit ridiculous! One of the men renovating the space asked if I was interested in buying it or renting it and I had to laugh, even though it is teeny weeny, a miniscule space like this on the Upper East Side was probably still way above my price range. Gotta love NYC real estate!! On the bright side, I am sure that it was way cheaper than the most expensive property in the city right now, an apartment overlooking Central Park that is on the market for a mere $95, 000, 000.00 Any one want to lend me some cash??!!  Have a fabulous Wednesday and always keep your sense of humor 😉

Yep, there is a building tucked in there!

Sometimes in NYC, it takes a little bit longer to master an outdoor sporting skill than in the ‘burbs. Although, if there was an Olympic sport consisting of fast walking while dodging cabs and tourists AND holding on to an umbrella and coffee, we would win every time 😉 One of those things that take a bit more effort to do is learning to ride a bike without training wheels. It is pretty hard to find a cul-de-sac with no traffic to run up and down beside a kid on a wobbly bike 😉 Luckily we live very close to Riverside Park which offers beautiful straight pathways and lots of wide open spaces to practice. Our youngest recently mastered the no training wheels skill and is happily cruising around on two wheels. Yesterday it was the perfect summer day for getting out and going for a ride. ‘R’ is still a little wobbly but is gaining confidence as she covers more and more pavement. It won’t be long until all of us are zipping around Manhattan on family biking tours. Woohoo!!! Here are some pics from the adventure. Enjoy and have a fabulous Wednesday!

On Monday a few of my girlfriends and I made a quick road trip out of the city to our friend’s house in Sherman, CT. It was a fabulous day filled with the warmth of good friends, much needed laughter, relaxation and of course a little bit of wine and food =) We had fun cruising around Lake Candlewood, cooling off in the water and enjoying the beautiful countryside on the stunning grounds of The White Silo Farm & Winery. It was a fabulous escape from the city and a spectacular day with cherished friends. A big thank you to Rena, for her incredible hospitality xox. Here are the pics from the day, hope you enjoy them.
