For some reason my body and mind do not like to sleep in anymore. I guess by default that makes me a morning person. I have been embracing this early wake up on Saturday mornings by heading to Central Park with Memphis where he runs off leash and I get some exercise walking at the most beautiful time of the day. Today it was enjoying the calm before the snow.

I spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon putting away all the Christmas decorations and tidying up the apartment. The snow did begin to fall. I love looking out my apartment window watching it blow all around. It is like being inside one giant snow globe.

There really is something magical about fresh snow, or maybe that is the Canadian in me talking 😉  Whatever it is, I always feel like I need to get out and go for a walk. So I grabbed Memphis’ leash and off we went. It is the Southern Gentleman’s second time in the snow. I do not think he shares my enthusiasm quite yet. I would say that he tolerates it.

It was quite blustery down by the river and we are both happy to be back home in the snow globe watching the white stuff fall outside. Time for a cup of tea, a warm blanket and a good movie. Memphis has already found his spot for the afternoon =)

It is a gorgeous sunny afternoon. There is a lovely breeze coming off the river. Perfect for a little baseball or for lounging around watching baseball practice. And that is exactly what I am doing. Enjoying the moment, taking a breather, appreciating the simple joys in life. Pretty soon it will be time to make dinner, help with homework, tidy the apartment, take out the dog, deal with reality. But not right now.

Cherish the day my friends. 😀

The temperature hit almost 30 degrees today and the sun was out. After the frozen tundra of the last few days, it was practically balmy out. We took advantage of the weather by getting out of the apartment and shaking off some of the cabin fever. It was joyful! Here are the pics of the our walk. Hope you enjoy them. Happy Wednesday my friends! =)

Dopey immediately started giving me the puppy dog eyes as soon as I walked back into the apartment this morning. The sun was streaming in the window, the air is crisp and cool, a perfect day to stroll along Riverside Park. So, that is exactly what we did. The leaves are barely starting to turn but there is beauty all around. D-dawg was on full squirrel alert and I even caught a glimpse of a few handsome firefighters in full dress uniform heading to FDNY Memorial Day. Sometimes you just have to take a moment to breathe and appreciate the little gifts. Today the dog reminded me to take advantage of the beauty outside. Hope your week is going well. Enjoy the day and just keep on walking 😉

The fog and sun combination put on an incredible show this morning in New York City. After I did the morning school drop off and coffee I felt the pull to head down to the river with Dopey dog to take some pics. I was rewarded with a spectacular display by mother nature. At times the fog was so thick you could barely see a few feet in front of you and at other times the sun was so bright it was dazzling. What a treat! It was the perfect little mid-week escape. I hope you enjoy the pics. Come take a walk with me…

Have a wonderful day everyone! Happy Wednesday =)

We don’t get a lot of snow days here in Manhattan. If we are lucky we get one huge snow dump a year. The kind of storm that forces everyone to slow down, chill and wait it out. And, if you have no where to go, you can’t help but be a little bit excited about it. This is what happened yesterday. A big Nor’easter blew in and Manhattanites fled inside to escape the snow and wind blowing through the city. We hunkered down, played games, read books and watched some t.v. It was all warm and cozy. Heavenly.

But the best part was that, this morning we awoke to the most magical of sights- the city covered in snow. The kids were beyond excited and we dug out our winter clothes, found the sleds and headed to the hill. Manhattan in those first few hours after a snowstorm is truly a breathtakingly beautiful place. We will enjoy this fleeting snow day while it lasts because as we New Yorkers know it will soon turn into giant puddles of slush. Here are the pics of our morning adventures, hope you enjoy them. Stay safe and warm my friends and to all those who must shovel the snow today, I salute you and raise a glass in your direction 😉

Sometimes in NYC, it takes a little bit longer to master an outdoor sporting skill than in the ‘burbs. Although, if there was an Olympic sport consisting of fast walking while dodging cabs and tourists AND holding on to an umbrella and coffee, we would win every time 😉 One of those things that take a bit more effort to do is learning to ride a bike without training wheels. It is pretty hard to find a cul-de-sac with no traffic to run up and down beside a kid on a wobbly bike 😉 Luckily we live very close to Riverside Park which offers beautiful straight pathways and lots of wide open spaces to practice. Our youngest recently mastered the no training wheels skill and is happily cruising around on two wheels. Yesterday it was the perfect summer day for getting out and going for a ride. ‘R’ is still a little wobbly but is gaining confidence as she covers more and more pavement. It won’t be long until all of us are zipping around Manhattan on family biking tours. Woohoo!!! Here are some pics from the adventure. Enjoy and have a fabulous Wednesday!

Things are a little bit crazy lately, I mean really, when are they not? Life in general moves at a pretty insane pace. Not that I am complaining. It is all good. Ron is traveling a lot, the girls have activities, school work, testing, the 1/2 marathon approaches, as does the the auction, the list goes on… It is during all this insanity that I really feel that we are truly at home here. After almost two years of living in NYC, it really does finally feel like we live here and are not just caught up in a whirlwind vacation of some sort 😉 This is home. This past weekend we took a family walk in Riverside Park, the weather was gorgeous and we were just enjoying being out. It was great to just have some relaxing moments with the family. I captured a picture of the girls looking out over the water. ‘A’ turned to me and said “You know what I am looking at mom, I am am looking at home”. My heart felt warm and there was a feeling of peace. Home. Perfection.
