The line from “Hamilton: An American Musical” keeps running through my mind right now as I sit here reflecting on the insanity of the year that was 2016. This year has been a whirlwind of ups and downs. And yes, there have been many downs but we are still here. We ARE lucky to be alive right now and to enter 2017, fierce and strong and ready to meet challenges like the badass people we have proven to be. Yep, I am talking about YOU! Go get it my friends!! =)

Sorry, I haven’t written in awhile, one of the resolutions I hope to keep is to get back to my writing. It really does soothe my soul and make me happy.

I have spent the last few days of 2016 with my girls and Memphis. I was lucky enough to get the week off of work and we spent Christmas in Bedford celebrating with good friends and meeting new people in a beautiful setting. We have also had some quality time chilling at home binge watching “Gilmore Girls”.

This time of year is still a bit tough, I find myself with a bit too much time to think and reflect. Not necessarily a bad thing unless I start being a little too hard on myself. I have to remind myself to take a deep breath. I am exactly where I am supposed to be. This year we said goodbye to Dopey dog but it also brought us Memphis. The girls and I have become closer, we are our own little family unit. I have a job that I enjoy, it is chaotic and crazy, it forces me out of my comfort zone. I don’t see my extended family and out of town friends as often as I would like but they are doing a-okay and that makes me smile. Here in the big city I am surrounded by my NYC family and these friends are the glue that hold all the pieces together. My heart is full. For that I am so very humbled and grateful.

I do feel a little uncertain as to what 2017 holds, but I do know this, together, we will be okay. Kindness is key. And love really is the answer. Be well my friends. Happy, Happy, Happy 2017!! -Sandra xo

(I leave you with a few pics from the last few days of this year- Enjoy!)

Sorry, I haven’t been around in a couple of weeks, I have been enjoying the unstructured days of summer 😊

The girls are at camp and I am desperately finding ways to counter balance the heartbreak in the world right now and the insanity of politics with the simple things that summer brings. I am distracting myself with quiet moments, new shows, long walks, new reading material, dinner with friends and even trips to the dentist and eye doctor. Mostly I am just taking time to breathe.

Summer, a time to slow down a bit, relax, look around, appreciate.

Here are few pics from the past couple of weeks. Hope you enjoy them. Happy summer my friends! 😎💜

They warned us Jonas was coming. In predictable NYC fashion people rushed to the local supermarkets and cleared the shelves of bread. One can only hope that wine and cheese were bought too. We all speculated, would the city really get hit this time? Last year in preparation for an epic storm, the subways were closed, schools were cancelled and not a single flake fell. Bummer. This time, storm Jonas actually went above and beyond and brought more snow than was even predicted. It was a record storm for NYC, one for the books. The Jonas snowfall total for Central Park is 27.9 inches. Wowza.

We spent Jonas hunkered down in the apartment. I caught up on tv shows and ventured out to take the dog and grab a few pics. The girls played with friends and tuned into their own devices. We found some of grandma’s spaghetti sauce in the freezer and indulged in gourmet hot chocolate given to us as a Christmas gift. The snow fell outside, the wind blew and I felt incredibly grateful to be warm and safe inside. Caught in our own little winter wonderland snow globe.

I love when NYC is forced to slow down. The streets clear, people reach out to help others, small acts of kindness are witnessed- a shared meal, a sidewalk shoveled, a hand up over a large snowbank… People gather on the deserted streets to take in the beauty of the freshly fallen snow. We remember to cherish the little things.

This morning we headed over to our favorite hill to get our sledding on. The sun dazzled, kids laughed and the city slowly awoke, seemingly a bit reluctant to return to its normal pace.

I hope you all made it through the storm safely and found a little peace. It was nice to see winter make an appearance, maybe next time not all at once 😉

Two more days until the girls are finally out of school for the summer. I can’t wait. Remind me I said that in a few weeks 😉 It is a spectacular day in NYC. No humidity, no clouds, not too hot and the promise of hazy, lazy days of summer right around the corner.

Here’s to day trips, no packed lunches, picnics in the park, exploring the city, going away to camp, vacations away from the city, the empty summer streets, sleeping in, staying up late and enjoying each and every moment.

Happy Summer my friends!!! 💜💜💜

The temperature hit almost 30 degrees today and the sun was out. After the frozen tundra of the last few days, it was practically balmy out. We took advantage of the weather by getting out of the apartment and shaking off some of the cabin fever. It was joyful! Here are the pics of the our walk. Hope you enjoy them. Happy Wednesday my friends! =)

Dopey immediately started giving me the puppy dog eyes as soon as I walked back into the apartment this morning. The sun was streaming in the window, the air is crisp and cool, a perfect day to stroll along Riverside Park. So, that is exactly what we did. The leaves are barely starting to turn but there is beauty all around. D-dawg was on full squirrel alert and I even caught a glimpse of a few handsome firefighters in full dress uniform heading to FDNY Memorial Day. Sometimes you just have to take a moment to breathe and appreciate the little gifts. Today the dog reminded me to take advantage of the beauty outside. Hope your week is going well. Enjoy the day and just keep on walking 😉
