For some reason my body and mind do not like to sleep in anymore. I guess by default that makes me a morning person. I have been embracing this early wake up on Saturday mornings by heading to Central Park with Memphis where he runs off leash and I get some exercise walking at the most beautiful time of the day. Today it was enjoying the calm before the snow.

I spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon putting away all the Christmas decorations and tidying up the apartment. The snow did begin to fall. I love looking out my apartment window watching it blow all around. It is like being inside one giant snow globe.

There really is something magical about fresh snow, or maybe that is the Canadian in me talking 😉  Whatever it is, I always feel like I need to get out and go for a walk. So I grabbed Memphis’ leash and off we went. It is the Southern Gentleman’s second time in the snow. I do not think he shares my enthusiasm quite yet. I would say that he tolerates it.

It was quite blustery down by the river and we are both happy to be back home in the snow globe watching the white stuff fall outside. Time for a cup of tea, a warm blanket and a good movie. Memphis has already found his spot for the afternoon =)

They warned us Jonas was coming. In predictable NYC fashion people rushed to the local supermarkets and cleared the shelves of bread. One can only hope that wine and cheese were bought too. We all speculated, would the city really get hit this time? Last year in preparation for an epic storm, the subways were closed, schools were cancelled and not a single flake fell. Bummer. This time, storm Jonas actually went above and beyond and brought more snow than was even predicted. It was a record storm for NYC, one for the books. The Jonas snowfall total for Central Park is 27.9 inches. Wowza.

We spent Jonas hunkered down in the apartment. I caught up on tv shows and ventured out to take the dog and grab a few pics. The girls played with friends and tuned into their own devices. We found some of grandma’s spaghetti sauce in the freezer and indulged in gourmet hot chocolate given to us as a Christmas gift. The snow fell outside, the wind blew and I felt incredibly grateful to be warm and safe inside. Caught in our own little winter wonderland snow globe.

I love when NYC is forced to slow down. The streets clear, people reach out to help others, small acts of kindness are witnessed- a shared meal, a sidewalk shoveled, a hand up over a large snowbank… People gather on the deserted streets to take in the beauty of the freshly fallen snow. We remember to cherish the little things.

This morning we headed over to our favorite hill to get our sledding on. The sun dazzled, kids laughed and the city slowly awoke, seemingly a bit reluctant to return to its normal pace.

I hope you all made it through the storm safely and found a little peace. It was nice to see winter make an appearance, maybe next time not all at once 😉

I definitely did not like waking up to a winter snow storm yesterday. My body is craving longer days, sunny skies and warmer temperatures. It is sunny today but cold. This did not seem to bother the dog as he longingly looked out the window with his big brown eyes. He wanted to go for a long walk. I wanted to wimp out and hide indoors with a tea and a good book. But wow, am I really glad that Dopey-dog’s guilt trip won out. I am going to call today a bonus winter day.

As soon as we entered Central Park the wind died down and The temperature seemed a bit warmer. It was quiet and serene and I felt like I was a million miles away from the big city. The beauty was absolutely stunning. There were tourists, cross country skiers, runners and other dog walkers. When we passed each other we smiled and instead of grumbling about the long winter we commented on how breathtaking the park was. I am sharing the pics I snapped as I walked through the park. I hope you enjoy them. I am also reminded that sometimes begrudgingly heading out to complete a task you don’t want to do can lead to the best part of your day. Happy Friday! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend 🙂

February has turned out to be one long and frigid month. We are all sick of the weather. My youngest asked if we could move to Hawaii and honestly, I think it is beginning to sound like a pretty good plan.

On these cold winter days it is very tempting to dive back under the covers and stay in bed. It is even more tempting when a snoring dog is the perfect hibernation buddy. I have taken these pics of Dopey dog over the past few days. I am very jealous of his beautifully perfected nap anywhere technique. He is one cosy dog on a winter day. Hope you enjoy the pics and are managing to stay warm. The birds are chirping and the sun is shining today. Spring is coming 🙂

The temperature hit almost 30 degrees today and the sun was out. After the frozen tundra of the last few days, it was practically balmy out. We took advantage of the weather by getting out of the apartment and shaking off some of the cabin fever. It was joyful! Here are the pics of the our walk. Hope you enjoy them. Happy Wednesday my friends! =)

We were all waiting, waiting, waiting and hoping (some of us anyway) for winter storm Juno to dump an epic amount of snow on NYC. And as you all know, we were disappointed. Our snowfall amount counted as basically a normal winter event. On the plus side, we did get enough snow to cover hills for sledding and beautify the city in white. And the kids had a snow day. Woot!!

Here are some pics from the past couple of days. Snuggling, sledding, slow cooker french onion soup, wine, reading, movies and hanging with family and friends. Who doesn’t love a good snow day? Hope you enjoy the pics. Happy Wednesday and Happy Winter!! =)

So far in NYC, we have had very little snow this winter. Just a few snow showers here and there and barely a dusting to coat the city streets. I know, I know… there is still a lot of winter left and be careful what you wish for and all that… =)

Which brings me to my point. Today has been a damp cold, the kind of cold that you feel in your bones. The kind of cold that the Canadian part of me makes me think that it is going to snow. And sure enough the forecast is calling for some overnight flurries. FLURRIES. I guess that is why there have been THREE snow plows and sanders idling on our street since this morning. Judging by the response from the city (on my street, anyway) we are expecting the snowpocalypse or at least snowmaggedon! Crazy. I am beginning to wonder if they know something the weather people don’t. The trucks are just sitting there at the ready. Don’t they know that the more prepared you are means that not a single drop of white stuff will actually fall from the sky?

Hope you are all having a wonderful Wednesday! And if the NYC Sanitation guys are right, don’t forget to wear your boots tomorrow 😉

Happy winter and happy snow!!

There is something very depressing that happens in NYC during the first couple of weeks of January. I will call it the Christmas tree dump. As you walk down the streets, undecorated trees are cast aside to the curb looking bleak and sad. A reminder that the holidays are truly over. Sigh. We are having a cold snap in NYC right now. The temperatures are bitterly cold with a wind chill that makes you wish for the suburbs with garages and heated car seats. So, today, I braved frost bite, took off the gloves and snapped a few pics of the abandoned trees left at the curbs. And then promptly hustled back to the apartment to get warm and snuggle with this guy:

I will try and remain positive and look at the trees as a reminder of a fabulous holiday and to look forward at all of the amazing adventures in the year ahead. And hey, the dogs definitely like all of the trees lying around 😉

Hope you are all having a wonderful day. Stay warm and find some time for your own cozy snuggles!

I know, I know, we are all sick and tired of this winter already and it is only the beginning of February. There is another winter storm warning for NYC again tonight. Yep, we are definitely getting winter this winter.

But then, you step foot into Central Park and it is snow covered and the sun is shining and your breath is literally taken away by its beauty. It is a spectacular winter wonderland all on its own. That is when you truly enjoy the moment. Yes, it will all turn to a slushy mess later on but for now it is simply perfect. Today on my run, there were so many moments when I was truly grateful to be able to be in the park and experience the freedom, beauty and joy of just being part of the scenery.

I am going to share some winter pics from the last couple of days. They are ones that have made me smile in wonder. Ah mother nature, we do love to curse you but you truly are magnificent in all your glory. I hope you enjoy them. I am going to embrace this sunny beautiful winter day before another storm sets in and find myself trudging through the wind and snow. Have a wonderful day everyone, be safe, be warm, be happy!! =)
