NYC is currently being crushed under a gigantic heatwave. You would think we were living in the deep south, people are moving that S-L-O-W-L-Y. I am going to take a page out of Dopey dog’s book on “how to survive the excessive heat” and stay hydrated and do as little as possible. I suggest you do the same. Be well my friends, stay cool and be positive. Happy Wednesday!! xox

I thought this morning I would share some pics of what the REAL housewives of NYC actually spend their time doing. We are getting ready for our school’s Spring Street Fair that is happening this Saturday. It is a fantastic fundraiser for our amazing public school. My friend Abigail who is an incredible crusader for all things Green and is one of the driving forces behind the school’s recycling, composting and green team has encouraged the students to recycle plastic caps all year and bring them into the school. As part of one of the Street Fair activities, Abby and her class as well as any other student that wants to swing by and help are going to create a fabulous piece of artwork made up entirely of re-using these caps of various shapes, colors and sizes. Last year’s artwork made with plastic bottles was incredible. Here is a pic:

So, back to my ultra-glamorous morning. Abby, Meilan, Robin and I spent a couple of hours sifting through large bags of caps and drilling holes through the caps so that they will be ready for the spectacular art compilation on Saturday. Here are some fun pics of us getting our drill on. Thanks to Robin for taking the pictures. Happy Wednesday everyone!!! MUAH =)

Today is Wednesday and I haven’t really been out and about too much to take any interesting pics. Instead I am going to share a recent purchase. I saw this fridge magnet the other day and was drawn to the words on it “Be Kind. No Exceptions.” The magnet is now on our fridge and I have decided that as I move through the city and interact with numerous strangers on a daily basis, that I am going to try extra hard to choose kindness instead of the other easy reactionary emotions- impatience, anger and frustration. I will also try this with my loved ones too, I am sure they will appreciate it πŸ˜‰ It seems like such a simple thing, yet we are quick to judge and react negatively especially when times are stressful and rushed. I am going to work on it. I will let you know how it goes. If anything, I think it will give me more moments of peace in the day. Happy Wednesday and Happy Hump πŸ™‚ xox

Today was one of those perfect mornings to stay curled up in bed. The rain was falling, it was dark, warm and cosy. But… the pesky alarm was going off and work, school and the rest of the day’s schedule would not be ignored. By the time we were ready to walk out the door it was pouring outside. Flash flood warnings were out for the city and beyond. It was the type of rain that left you drenched as soon as you stepped out in it. We walked to school armed with our rubber boots, jackets and umbrellas. NYC is not a very easy city to manoeuvre when the there is a heavy down pour. The streets and sidewalks quickly become flooded with gigantic puddles, small dogs and children could easily disappear. And then there is the juggling of umbrellas, I am surprised more people do not lose eyes in the battle for sidewalk territory. Don’t even think about trying to get a cab on a morning like this, unless you have been saving up a year’s worth of karma it just will not happen. So, of course, I did the only sensible thing I could do after I dropped off the kids, I headed to my favorite Starbucks and waited out the storm before embarking on my next errand. I mean really, can you blame me?? πŸ˜‰

Of course, now it has stopped raining and the sun is even trying to peek out. It always seems to happen like this- it rains hard just as everyone is leaving in the morning ensuring that children and adults alike will spend the remainder of the day with wet feet and pant bottoms. I guess the only saving grace is that a spring rain is so much nicer than a winter rain. The nice bonus of a good downpour is that the streets of Manhattan are already looking and smelling a little bit cleaner… Have a wonderful Wednesday my friends. Enjoy the pics =)

Today I had the pleasure of welcoming in May on a field trip with a second grade class. We went to Central Park and learned about climate and weather from one of the amazing Park Rangers. It was the perfect way to start the day. Central Park is simply spectacular right now. Enjoy the pics. A few weeks ago I cleaned out the girls closets, sorted clothes, donated and filled up bags for the trash. It felt really good to get them organized. Yesterday it was my turn. Living in NYC can create interesting issues with space, we are pretty lucky with closet sizes, except for mine… somehow I seem to have the smallest of all the closets. It is not an easy task to keep clean. There are really no excuses for the drawers though… oops! And, remember there is no such thing as a basement so clothes need to be ruthlessly sorted into two categories as 1) “YES, I will definitely wear this, so it stays” and 2) “No, it must go”. There is no third option of “I will keep it just in case”. So, I spent most of yesterday, (yes it took THAT long!) and went through my closet and all my drawers. At the end of the day I felt pretty darn good and had two garbage bags to donate and two garbage bags for the trash. My only hope is that I can make these new neat and tidy spaces last πŸ˜‰ Happy Wednesday everyone. It is a beautiful sunny day here in NYC. I hope wherever you are, you are embracing the day! xox Enjoy the pics and feel free to have a good laugh at my mess!

I am still processing what happened in Boston. As a runner, a spectator, a friend, a mother, a spouse… it just hit a little too close to home. There are no words to adequately describe the feelings of shock, anger, sadness, fear, anxiety, compassion and bewilderment. As my youngest put so innocently “Why would anyone do something like this?”. That is exactly the question that we can’t answer.

I am trying to focus on the amazing stories of human strength and courage. The hundreds of people who helped, the first responders, the outpouring of support from across the country and world. The fact that although there is darkness in this world, it will always be overcome by the light. It is in this thought that I find peace and comfort.

So, along those lines, my pics for Wordless Wednesday this week are moments over the past few days that are just little bursts of joy and happiness. I hope they make you smile and brighten your day. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those in Boston and beyond. Sending hugs, strength, courage and love to you all.

Spring Break is officially over. Two very sleepy girls made their way back to school today and I am happily sitting in a very quiet apartment getting some work done and organizing my life. It feels good to be on a bit of a schedule again. And did I mention how quiet it is??!! =)

We had a wonderful time on our long weekend adventure in Washington DC. It is a beautiful city and I feel like we covered a lot of ground but still have so much more to see! The good news is that I know that we will be back to explore. It is an incredibly clean, family friendly, easy to walk around city that has sights to see and historic landmarks on nearly every corner. We managed to go to the Zoo, American Museum of Natural History, Museum of American History, The Air & Space Museum and the Spy Museum with a few stops to see the numerous memorials and monuments along the way. Like I said, there is still so much to explore, we will definitely be back. Here are some pics from our trip, hope you enjoy them and here’s hoping that some Spring like weather will start showing up soon. Brrr!! Stay warm my friends and Happy Wednesday!

As I have said before, one of the things I love about living in New York City is exploring and finding something new and cool. This past Saturday as I was was walking along 41st street with my youngest daughter, we discovered Library Way. On the way to the central branch of the New York City Public Library which is located at 42nd and 5th there is a whole street block dedicated to plaques that contain poetry, quotes and other pieces of literature. It really is a pause and look where you are going moment AND the one time in NYC where all is forgiven if you stop walking to read in the middle of the sidewalk πŸ˜‰

Here are some pics, take the time to read them and have a wonderful Wednesday!

Lately the NYC weather has been totally unpredictable, we have had rain, snow, sleet, slush and just plain yuck. So, this morning when I awoke to beautiful sunshine and not so cold temps, I decided to take advantage of it and take Dopey out for a walk. Here are some pics of our morning walk that I snapped along the way. Hope you enjoy them! Happy Wednesday everyone, Spring is definitely in the air!!!
