On Sunday Ron, Dopey-dog and myself will be heading to New Hampshire for a week long vacation at a little cabin we have rented. Dopey (our city dog) won’t know what hit him. I have a feeling he will take the State’s motto “Live Free or Die” to heart. A lake to jump into, grass to roll around on, sand to dig, little critters to chase… I am not sure we will ever see him again. But, as per the cabin rules, he will have to contain his freedom somewhat and is required to be tied up in the presence of other people, animals etc. Not knowing how close the other cabins are and if he chases a squirrel if he will ever come back, I made it my mission this week to try and find a dog tie-out in NYC. This is not an easy task, for one, most people do not tie their dogs out anywhere, apartment living and all that and secondly, if they did have such a thing it was for a mere 20 pound tiny dog named Fifi. So I needed to find something that would be worthy of my 100 pound boy. Off to Amazon I went where again I was bombarded with lots of options for dogs that weighed under 50 pounds, these tie-outs were not going to do. Finally I found the perfect thing and it arrived on my door step this morning:

It might possibly be just a wee bit overboard but really, there seemed to be no middle ground and honestly those squirrels need a bit of a head start, right Super Beast????!!!:

Happy Wednesday everyone!!! Hope your day and week are filled with sunshine and ice-cream! xox

Sleepaway camp. Two wonderful words, almost as good as the words back to school… just kidding… sort of. This is the third summer that the girls have gone away to a camp in New Hampshire and the second summer they have been gone for a full four weeks. Yep, four weeks with no children. We have just passed the two week mark and I do have to admit that I am really missing them, a lot. The girls are sending hilarious letters about how much fun they are having or if you are our youngest- “I love you and miss you- please send bubbles!” Also, the camp pictures show smiling, happy children enjoying all that camp has to offer. Even though I miss them and can’t wait to see them and hear all about their adventures, I am also enjoying our time apart. I know that being out of the city is incredibly good for them, they are experiencing so many new things, making friends and maturing BUT, it is also good for us as a family. The girls learn to appreciate each other (and us) a bit more and we (I) tend to have more patience with them when they return. A little absence does make the heart grow fonder 😉

The best part is the time that Ron and I get to spend together and re-group. It is just the two of us (and the dog) and it is wonderful to have some much needed couple time. Even though Ron is still insanely busy at work it is nice to just be able to carve out some time for just the two of us without any of the normal day to day parenting distractions. We also get to do this couple staycation in one of the greatest cities in the world. We haven’t exactly gone hog wild but we have enjoyed going to brunch, strolling through the city at our leisure, browsing through bookstores, going to the movies, seeing a couple of Broadway shows, a concert on the Pier, dinners out and simply hanging out and watching what WE want to on the television. A much needed time to re-connect. On Sunday, we have rented a cottage near where the girls camp is located and we are truly going to log off, unwind, enjoy nature, swim, read, bbq and chill out. Can’t wait. We will still have plenty of summer to hang as a family, I love that too, but right now, Mom and Dad are having fun enjoying a little playtime of their own 😉

So, I went to a Soul Cycle class today in the West Village to participate in the amazing Anandah Carter’s last community ride before she takes the podium as an instructor. It was incredible. And then when I walked out of class and the sun was shining I decided to walk home instead of heading underground on the subway. I know I am slightly crazy but you all do know how much I LOVE walking in this city and I was already sweaty 😉 On my way back uptown I decided to walk along the Highline, because well, why not? So for today’s blog I am going to share some pics that I took while strolling (I had no choice the tourists were out in droves!) the Highline. Hope you enjoy them. And Congrats Anandah!!! Happy Wednesday everyone!!

Packing for camp. We drive the girls to New Hampshire on Saturday and although I have had the packing “done in my head” for weeks, I actually had to get to it today. Laundry was done, piles were made and labels were attached to everything except socks, I draw the line at socks!! As of Sunday, Ron and I will be childless for four whole weeks. I will miss the girls terribly but they need to get out of the stinking hot city, away from each other (even if it is only a cabin away) and they need to run around in the great outdoors. And well, Ron and I could use some “us” time. So, back to packing I go… the toiletries await 😉 Happy Wednesday everyone!!!

The girls leave for camp in a little over a week. It has been nice to have them home, enjoying a no schedule, relaxing start to the summer. It is starting to get hot in the city and this is when it becomes a bit challenging to find activities that do not involve baking in the concrete jungle. So far we have been exploring new playgrounds (with water features), riding our bikes, epic board game battles, play dates, movies and today chilling out with a good book in the a/c. I am also keeping a close eye on the suggestions from my good friend Babette who just started a Camp Mom NYC Blog… be sure to check it out if you are looking for fun activities to do in NYC with kids whether you are a local or a tourist!
Here a few of my favorite pics from the last few days, hope you enjoy them. I will miss the little monkeys when they are gone, but I am also looking forward to spending some time on some grown-up NYC adventures too! 😉 Happy Wednesday- stay cool my friends, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!

It is that time of year- the end of another school year. Time seems to be flying by faster and faster. Today was the last full day of the 2013-2014 academic year for the girls- third and sixth grade. Crazy. So, today I will simply say that they keep making us incredibly proud with their many achievements and that we are pretty darn lucky, girl drama and all!!! 😉 Happy Summer my friends!!!

The end of the school year is fast approaching and with it is a whirlwind of activities at both girls schools. Although I complain about barely being able to keep all the dates of the numerous parties and performances straight, I have to admit I do love seeing their achievements. They are both incredibly lucky to go to wonderful public schools that challenge them academically and creatively. So awesome to see what they have been working on. So, today I am just taking a few minutes to post a couple of pics to recognize my little monkeys and another fantastic school year. Way to go ladies!!! Happy Wednesday everyone. Summer is right around the corner 🙂

Today I am using all of the laundry that I have to fold as an excuse to watch Orange Is The New Black. Perfection. Shhh… Do NOT interrupt the important folding going on or I might have to shank you 😉 (Happy Wednesday)

Today is National Running Day so even though I was feeling a little sluggish, I laced up the sneakers met up with some of my favorite running gals and headed to Central Park. I am incredibly fortunate to call Central Park my training ground. Its beauty in all the seasons is stunning. The views NEVER get old and I promise to never take the fact that I can run here for granted. Today, I will share some pics with you that I took during our running route. We ran at a very leisurely pace on this hot and humid day, we allotted time for pictures, water breaks and even headed over to the New York Road Runners Club to pick up our National Running Day bibs and bandanas. It was perfect. I feel so very fortunate to be able to run with a group of fabulous women on one of the best running courses in the world. I run to be healthy, strong, fierce, the beast mom, for my sanity, to spend time with my friends, for coffee time afterwards and of course, for cupcakes 😉 Happy Wednesday everyone and Happy Running!!!
