Today is a beautiful spring like day. The temps are climbing and the sun is shining. I have been sidelined from running for a few months now with achilles tendonitis. Rest and physical therapy have been helping but I have definitely missed pounding the pavement.

I recently got the go ahead to start running again. To run in very short amounts. And I promised I would listen to my body. Something most of us runners are not very good at.

So, this morning I headed to the park and did a VERY short and slow walk/run. It felt good and it is a start. Central Park was its majestic self, teeming with runners, walkers and cyclists. It is really hard to resist its beauty on such an incredible day πŸ˜€

Memphis was happy to welcome me back home by saving a sunny spot for me on the couch πŸ’œ

Happy Wednesday my friends. Keep springing forward and focusing on the positive. Remember, one foot at a time πŸ˜‰

This past Friday we moved into our new apartment. The girls and I love the new space. It truly feels like a fresh start and a warm and wonderful home. On that same day we also welcomed a new addition to our family.

It wasn’t supposed to happen this fast… We had just put our beloved Dopey down not too long ago. But, as I have learned time and again, life doesn’t always work on  a specified timeline or go exactly as planned.

A kind hearted and amazing soul named Judy who works with the group NYC Second Chance Rescue was fostering Memphis. I decided to go and meet him. From the moment I laid eyes on him, I knew he was the perfect dog for our family. Memphis is a total love bug who loves everyone, is curious, happy to meet other animals and loves cuddles and kisses. He is approximately 9 months and weighs 40 pounds. Judy is convinced Dopey sent him to us, I think she might be right. Hard to say if we rescued him, or if he rescued us πŸ’œ

I feel like brighter days are ahead. Hard to  have a bad day when a happy, wiggle butt greets you at the door!

A BIG thank you to Judy and NYC Second Chance. We are grateful for all you do.

Happy Wednesday my friends, sending puppy kisses your way!!

The girls and I are doing a move within in our building. A little down sizing. We are all (especially me!) super excited to have a new space to call our own. New decorating possibilities- woohoo!!

However, it is still taking as much energy and work as a move across the city or country would be. I am going through each and every room and space, throwing out, donating and packing. And consuming a lot of caffeine! πŸ˜€ It is exhausting but I know that it will be worth it in the end. But seriously, how many towels and sneakers does one family need??

So, if you need me over the next week or so I will likely be under a box or bin or maybe stuck under a pile of books. I happily welcome distractions. I AM a procrastinator to the core!

Happy Wednesday! Keep on rocking my friends.

The new year hasn’t exactly started off with the positive bang that I was hoping for but I do believe things are looking up. On that note the girls and I are having an incredible time in California.

California truly is one of my favorite places. I am not sure if it is because it is my place of birth but every time I return, I feel a sense of peace. We are staying in Carlsbad, just north of San Diego and it is beautiful. Being able to wake up to a view of the ocean every morning is good for my soul. I love sharing my love of Cali with the girls.

This morning the little one and I went on a sunrise adventure for donuts. We have driven by the Leucadia Donut Shoppe on the pacific coast highway numerous times on our travels. The first time there was a huge line and the second time we drove by there was a sign on the door- the donuts were sold out by 10:30am! We were intrigued.

My body still wakes up like we are on the east coast so this morning Re and I hopped in the car and headed off to get donuts. At that time of the morning we were able to see the sunrise, meet other crazy people getting donuts at 6 in the morning, chat with the super nice guy at the donut shoppe and stop to say good morning to the ocean. Perfection.

And the donuts? Unbelievable. Amazingly good. Might be worth the sunrise drive every morning!!!

Enjoy the pics. Hope you are all enjoying fun and fabulous February adventures πŸ’œ

It is a new year, time to challenge yourself and try things that scare you a little. Recently I have started going to Hip Hop Yoga. In the past I have found most yoga classes to be a little intimidating. I would often leave the class feeling frustrated that I couldn’t do many of the moves or not even remotely relaxed because I was trying so hard to keep up and to not feel foolish. Maybe I was just taking the wrong kind of classes.

A friend of mine introduced me to Hip Hop Yoga at Y7 Studio. Their motto is sweat dripping, beat bumping, candlelit yoga. I was instantly intrigued. I wondered how yoga combined with hip hop would actually work. I was also a little nervous because I am not a huge fan of working out in extreme heat. Remember, I actually like to run in the cold!

The Y7 studios (I have been to Soho and Flatiron) are in great locations close to subways and in funky ‘hoods that make it a fun little adventure. The hip hop yoga class takes place in a hot studio in complete dark with only candlelight to help you navigate your way. The teacher leads you through numerous sequences- a vinyasa with the hip hop beats pumping in the background. I was hooked. It was awesome. It was really hard and the best part is that in the dark no one can really see if you are making mistakes. And quite frankly, everyone is worrying about themselves and in typical NYC fashion, no one cares what you are doing πŸ˜‰ The hot studio also seems to help ease all of those little aches and pains that keep popping up!

I have been to three classes so far- Travis Scott, Tupac and today, Drake. I will definitely be going back. I love the hour long combo of great music, challenging moves and the way it can quiet my crazy mind. Namaste, yo!

Fred Lebow was a runner, race director and the founder of the New York City Marathon. His statue is in a beautiful spot in Central Park. For those of us that faithfully run loops and train in the park, he is reminder of strength, determination and good will. I like to think that he is standing by still coaching and encouraging each and every runner that passes by.

Apparently it is good luck to touch the toes of the Fred Lebow statue before the marathon. Today was an absolute beautiful day for a run in the park. It also seemed like a fitting day to ask for little luck from Fred. I will be doing the NYC Marathon in just 10 days. My first marathon. I will take any luck I can get. Thank you Fred, for giving me and 50,000 of my closest friends the opportunity to go for a little run through the city! I will definitely be thinking of you and saluting your statute when I near the finish line.

Happy Wednesday my friends!! Keep on running. πŸ˜€πŸ‘ŠπŸΌ

There are 18 days until the NYC Marathon, but hey, who’s counting??!! I finished a short run this morning and stopped at Duane Reade on my way home. I looked down at the cash register and had to laugh. Yep, this is what it has come to my friends.

18 days and counting…

Happy Wednesday! Hope you find some time to get out and enjoy this beautiful day!

So, little Miss Roo decided that she wanted to experiment with her hair. And why not?

Today is the first day of Fall and as we mourn the end of the lazy hazy days of summer, we welcome the promise of something new and exciting as the season changes.

Luckily my beautiful and talented friend Lauren volunteered to complete the task of coloring the ends of Roo’s hair. Lauren has way more patience and skill than I do. Apparently R has a lot of hair. I wonder where she gets that from??!!

Here are some photos from the process (Dopey even wanted to get in on the action!) and of course a pic of the final product. So cool! Maybe I should do some experimenting myself?

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Lauren- you are THE best!!!!

Happy Wednesday and Happy Autumn πŸ™‚
