The girls and I had a fantastic week in Ottawa, it was great to re-connect with old friends and spend some time visiting some of our old haunts. But, I have to admit that I am very happy to be back in NYC where the weather is a little bit warmer and spring is well on its way. I love seeing the flowers sprouting up all around the city and shades of green in contrast with the concrete grey. Central Park is stunning right now. Allergies aside, it is wonderful to just get outside and really enjoy the warmth after such a long dreary winter. Here are some pics from the past few days. I hope you enjoy them. I am getting out the camera and will definitely be exploring the city in all of its spring glory. Happy Wednesday!!

The girls and I are having a blast spending Spring Break in Ottawa. Weather aside- snow in the middle of April!!!!, it has definitely been a trip down memory lane. The girls have not been back in almost three years and it is wonderful to watch their reactions and share experiences with them. We have visited the Canadian Museum of History, a place where we spent tons of hours passing time when they were little, a wave pool (something we do not have in NYC) and today a maple sugar shack in Quebec.

The Sucrerie de la Montagne is in Rigaud, Quebec. It is an old school maple sugar shack where they tap the trees without lines and bake bread in a monster brick oven. It is in a gorgeous location up in a mountain and is exactly the escape that we needed. After a tour of the facilities we ate a family style feast of pea soup, fresh bread, sausage, bacon, meat pie, ham, egg souffle, mashed potatoes and beans. For dessert there were pancakes with maple syrup and maple sugar pie. I probably should have run home 😉 We had a great time and may have bought a few treats to take back to the city.

Hope you enjoy the pics. I have to go and rest up for more eating and a trip to the sky zone (?!)
Happy Wednesday!! Here’s hoping Spring weather comes back for the break!

Today is an absolutely gorgeous spring day in NYC. The sun is shining, temperatures are climbing, patios are opening, warm jackets are being shed and people are smiling. It is wonderful. So good for the soul. It was also a perfect day to head out and get a little bit of spring shopping done. I cleaned out the closets yesterday, so I deserve it, right??!! The first thing on my list, believe it or not, was new running sneakers. So my friend Jess and I snuck in a fabulous brunch at The Smith and then headed to the New York Running Company in The Shops at Columbus Circle at the Time Warner Center. And while at the Columbus Circle shops we may have done some damage at a few other stores, shhh….

While at the Time Warner Center we happened upon a collection of eggs from the Faberge Big Egg Hunt. This egg hunt is currently going on in NYC and there are hundreds of eggs hidden all over the city. People are trying to find them all and of course there is fabulous faberge jewelry to be won. Today, under blue skies and heavenly sun, the eggs looked stunning. I took some pics. Hope you enjoy them and find some time to grab your own piece of sunshine!

Happy Wednesday!!!

Today I am home with a sick little one and I don’t really mind at all. I don’t like it when my kids are sick, it stinks to see them feeling crummy. But, every once in awhile it is nice to have an excuse to slow down, sit on the couch and snuggle. After a crazy couple of weeks with an even crazier couple on the way, I am quite happy to park my rump on this mid week hump 😉 Hope you are all hanging in and staying healthy. Be nice to yourself. Happy Wednesday!

Can I get a “wooosaaa”?! Some days you just wake up and the world is bugging you. I admit I was a little cranky this morning and am trying to shake it off. Yes, it is still winter, the “to do” list is long, it is not all sunshine and lollipops and blah, blah, blah… etc, etc, etc. We all know what life is like. But, I decided to just breathe a bit and focus on the positive- the sun is trying to come out, the temps are climbing above freezing, there was no line at Trader Joe’s- the simple things. What is hard, is to not get sucked into the polar vortex of negativity created by other people- an email received, a nasty person on the street, a rude look… Trying to remind myself to as Adele Dazim 😉 (Idina Menzel) would say “Let it Go…”. And on some days this takes a little more effort.

I was looking up inspirational type quotes and came across this and just like that the day looked a bit brighter 😉

Hope you all have a fabulous Wednesday! Wishing all the negative people a little sunshine in their lives or at least a little Star Wars humor.

It snowed again this morning. The clouds have been blocking out the sun most of the day. There is more snow in the forecast for the weekend. So, right now the beauty of these simple yellow flowers finding a patch of sunlight in the window is making me incredibly happy. Hopeful for spring and warmer weather. Happy Wednesday. May you all find a little patch of sun in your day! 😃

It is still cold in NYC. Whine, whine, whine and more complaining. We have another winter storm warning in effect- 6-10 inches. Ugh. Oh winter, this former Ottawa girl is so over you!! The bright spot in my day was going to Soul Cycle and finding the love, warmth and inspiration on the bike. Love my Soul Cycle family on the UWS. They really are THE best. Thanks Sean for a great class, thanks beyond awesome front desk team and thanks Jessica for being my wing-woman in the class. I soooo needed the warmth of Soul today. Happy Wednesday! Stay warm and safe my friends xox

So, remember yesterday when the whole city was encased in a beautiful winter wonderland? Well, not so much today. The storm came and brought with it snow, freezing rain, sleet and rain.  And now the city is one big pile of slush making it one big adventure to try and move around. The puddles at the intersections are the size of small lakes. People are resorting to walking in the street and passing cars and trucks are spraying water and ice everywhere. Definitely a good day to hide out and hibernate. Sigh. This has definitely been a WINTER. Happy hump day my friends, stay warm, safe and positive, in just a few more months we will be complaining about the heat 😉

I know, I know, we are all sick and tired of this winter already and it is only the beginning of February. There is another winter storm warning for NYC again tonight. Yep, we are definitely getting winter this winter.

But then, you step foot into Central Park and it is snow covered and the sun is shining and your breath is literally taken away by its beauty. It is a spectacular winter wonderland all on its own. That is when you truly enjoy the moment. Yes, it will all turn to a slushy mess later on but for now it is simply perfect. Today on my run, there were so many moments when I was truly grateful to be able to be in the park and experience the freedom, beauty and joy of just being part of the scenery.

I am going to share some winter pics from the last couple of days. They are ones that have made me smile in wonder. Ah mother nature, we do love to curse you but you truly are magnificent in all your glory. I hope you enjoy them. I am going to embrace this sunny beautiful winter day before another storm sets in and find myself trudging through the wind and snow. Have a wonderful day everyone, be safe, be warm, be happy!! =)

Today I, (plus Jess and R & T) braved the crowds and headed to Super Bowl Boulevard in midtown. It was pretty insane. Crowds and crowds of people were waiting on lines to see the Vince Lombardi trophy, kick a field goal, go down a toboggan run and well, you were pretty much going to have to wait in a huge line to do anything. I just wanted to check out the vibe. It was pretty cool. Even though the sidewalks were tough to walk through, most people were pretty easy going and content to just check out the sights. There were fans from both teams sporting their colors and cheering. There did seem to be more Seahawk fans than Broncos… I wonder what the stadium will look like?

I am glad that I took the time to check out this awesome event going on in our city, even if we did have to bribe the kids with M&M’s to have them tolerate walking through another crowd to get a picture 😉 Good luck to both teams tomorrow. Super Bowl mania is officially in NYC and we are loving it!!!
