So, I am a bit bummed that we will not be going to the actual Super Bowl this year given that it IS in NYC, well, New Jersey. I guess going to a Super Bowl will have to remain on the bucket list and we will have to aim to go to one in a warmer city, maybe the next time it is held in New Orleans??!!

However, there is definitely lots of Super Bowl excitement gripping the city already. Yesterday some friends and I headed to Macy’s to pick up some SB shirts- specifically Sherman jerseys that we will be wearing to our NYRR Gridiron 4M run in Central Park on Sunday morning. We have decided that we will run as “Team Sherman”– if that man is a thug, we need more thugs like him!!! The 4th floor of Macy’s is packed with all the gear you will need to support your favorite team. Go Broncos!!!

I will try and get out to the Super Bowl Mile in Times Square to take some pics of the action there… Football mania has definitely arrived!

As for me, I am looking forward to making some homemade nachos, drinking ice cold beer and screaming at the t.v. from the comfort and WARMTH of my couch.

Happy Wednesday and Happy Football everyone 😉

One of the best ways to rejuvenate the body and the soul is to escape to the country. This past weekend my friend Jessica and I headed up to the Poconos for a great spa getaway at The Lodge at Woodloch. It was exactly what I needed. A little breather from the fast pace of the city and the stress of the day to day.

We jumped into “Jake” the jeep and made our way to the Poconos in Pennsylvania. As soon as we drove over the George Washington Bridge I felt my body start to relax. We drove along the beautiful Palisades Parkway up Bear Mountain and made our way to the stunning snow covered countryside.

The Lodge at Woodloch is a wonderful resort. It is a perfect place to chill out, relax and simply just ‘be’. The rooms are nicely appointed, the spa facilities are wonderful, there are many spots to grab a tea and read your book in front of the fire and there are also many activities. Even though it was below freezing on Friday night Jessica and I signed up to do the nocturnal night walk on the property. Our fabulous guide Josh took us on a two mile hike through the woods on the Woodloch property. It was incredible, the stars were shining bright, the snow was crisp under foot and it was peaceful. So very quiet and peaceful. We also did a cooking demonstration on Saturday that was a lot of fun and involved some great hands on work. There were many other activities available ranging from yoga to tabata to wine tasting.

Jessica and I decided to spend the majority of our time using the awesome facilities. We had already had a week with a lot of running, training and spinning so we decided that the hot tub, sauna and steam room were where we wanted to hang out. It was divine. And of course we needed, yes needed 😉 a little massage- wonderful.

The end result is returning to the city with a little more patience, energy and fortitude to face the temperatures that are dropping again.

Here are some pics from our adventure. I loved being able to just go out and walk on the property. The wintery silence was such a nice treat. Cleansing. Lovely. Perfect.

So, when the weather people start calling winter the “polar vortex” I guess it is serious right?? Or maybe it is just a slow news period. Hard to tell, but yes, it has been pretty damn cold. The first week of January in NYC has brought snow, wicked fierce winds and frigid temperatures. Kind of makes me miss the days of hopping from my heated house into my heated car with heated seats… the key word here being heated 😉 And NOT walking everywhere in the cold. But enough with the whining, after all, it is just winter, so let’s suck it up and tough it out or hibernate…

Here is what it looks like today in NYC:

Frozen dog pee and other liquids are dotting the sidewalks…

Yep, it is kind of hard not to start daydreaming about this:

Ahh January, it’s all good… we still love you so- a new year, a new outlook and all that positive energy! Happy Wednesday my friends, I suggest warm drinks and lots of snuggles to get you through this cold front. My companion is waiting for me…

Last night the girls wore their pajamas inside out and backwards, flushed three ice cubes down both of our toilets and put a frozen spoon under their pillows before they went to bed. All of this so that they could be assured of a “snow day” on Friday. Well, it worked and we did indeed have snow day today. The snow fell fast and hard overnight and we awoke to a winter wonderland here in NYC. We don’t get too many of these beautiful snowy days with accumulation so we had to make the best of it and get our sled on, even in freezing cold temperatures. Here are some pics from the day, hope you enjoy them. Stay warm my friends!! Happy Weekend =)

There are so many, many moments of happiness from 2013 and of course there were many moments of tears as well, just like with any year. So, on this last day of 2013, I simply want to take a moment to reflect back and count and cherish our many blessings as a family and also to remember and pause to reflect on the painful moments as well. Life really is an adventure, one filled with twists and turns, ups and downs. An adventure not to be taken lightly.  My wish for all of you in 2014 is many wonderful adventures with family and friends as well as good health and happiness! May you do all of this surrounded in warmth and laughter. Goodbye 2013 and Hello 2014! Happy, happy, happiest of New Year’s from our family to yours!!!

Ahhh, the day after Christmas when I look forward to doing a whole lot of nothing. The big things on the agenda are reading, playing board games, eating yummy leftovers and contemplating going to see a movie. We might not get to the movie because that would mean getting out of our pajamas! 😉 Absolute perfection.

We had a beautiful day yesterday filled with friends and family. There was many a shared story, lots of laughter, an abundance of good food and just a general feeling of warmth and happiness. Feeling so incredibly grateful for the cherished time together.

My big gift this year was a real camera. I love taking pictures and for those that know me, I can be a bit of a pain in the butt always whipping out my iPhone trying to get the perfect shot. So this year Ron gave me a real camera- the Sony Alpha Nex-7. I am in love with it. I still have no idea how to use it properly and can’t wait to get to know all of the incredible functions and start exploring and to become an amateur photographer. So, yesterday I just did a lot of point and click and enjoyed every minute of it.  I hope you enjoy the pics, and I guess you will just have to bear with me as I take out my camera even more in 2014!

Wishing you a day filled with much relaxation!

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all the through the apartment, the children were bouncing with excitement while the adults lazed about and poured another glass… 😉

Or something like that!

Just wanted to take the time today to wish you all a very Merry Christmas from our home to yours. May your day be filled with laughter, fun, family, friends, good food and the warm glow of love. Taking a little time today for reflection and counting all of our many blessings. Grateful for so many of you. May your 2014 be filled with health and happiness! xoxox

This past Sunday we picked out our Christmas tree and decorated it. She is a big beautiful tree and once it warmed up and opened up we have to admit it looked a little “Griswold” Christmas. It definitely fills up the room but we love it and you can’t help but be filled with the spirit of the season when you look at it =). Hope you enjoy the pics. Happy Wednesday everyone, two more weeks until Santa visits… just keep breathing and remember a little Baileys in your coffee always tastes good 😉

One of my favorite things to do at this time of year is to simply walk the neighborhoods of Manhattan checking out all of the incredible decorations and window displays around the city. New York seems a bit nicer at this time of year, its tough edges softened a bit. There is a warm glow around the city and even though the rush and crush of people reaches an all time high (tourists, tourists and more tourists!), New Yorkers themselves seem to have a higher patience level and are more apt to be generous in giving and spirit. We also know exactly what areas of the city to stay away from and when. Macy’s on Black Friday? No way!! Midtown on Saturday during the day? Not a chance. And the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center? Looks just as good at a healthy distance.

Last night Ron and I secured a sitter and our date night consisted of an evening to simply walk the city and see the sights. We hopped on the subway and made our way downtown to the Canal Street stop on the N/R train. From there we continued through Soho up into NYU territory and Washington Sq. Park.

We also stopped for a little liquid cheer at a pub called “Half Pint”. Hey, it was cold outside and we needed to keep our energy up 😉 And, the beer in the NYU neighborhood is pretty darn cheap, by NYC standards. We continued to Union Square checking out the holiday pop-up stores.

Leaving Union Square we continued walking up towards the Madison Square Park area, the beauty of the Empire State Building lit in honor of Nelson Mandela, seemed to be guiding our way.

After another pause for a quick drink we continued on our way and headed into the Herald Square area to see the window display at Macy’s. They are really magical this year. My advice- go later in the evening, we arrived around 9:30 and the crowds were definitely manageable.

One of the best areas in NYC at any time of the year is Bryant Park. It really is incredibly festive around the holidays. Shhh… don’t tell anyone, but I actually like the Christmas tree here better than the one at Rockefeller Center. I find myself being a bit mesmerized by the skaters dancing around on the ice in the shadow of the beautiful public library.

After Bryant Park we walked up Fifth Avenue and took in the annual light display. It never disappoints. Saks Fifth Avenue department store always has such interesting and unique windows. I love the Yeti!

At this point in our adventure the wind was starting to pick up and well, we were getting cold… But we had to continue up to see the Tiffany Star.

The whole apartment is filled with the wonderful smell of the tree and the fake fireplace is on the t.v. It may be cold outside but it is warm and cozy in here.  Feeling grateful for time with family and for this city. Have a wonderful Sunday, hope it is filled with warmth, happiness and a bit of holiday cheer!

This time of year in New York City is truly magical. The whole city, normally such a subdued place to begin with 😉 comes alive in decorations- beautiful lights and colors, lavish store front windows and displays. The festivities and celebrations are endless. Breathtaking views become even more impossibly stunning and a warm glow seems to take over the city. It is pretty hard to be a grinch although you can still find a few of those too! Over the Thanksgiving weekend, the true kick off to the holiday fun, we decided to get tickets to go and see “The Holiday Train Show” at New York Botanical Garden.

I had been wanting to go and explore the Botanical Gardens for a long time and this was the perfect excuse. It is a quick and easy 20 minute Metro North train ride from Manhattan into the Bronx. The Gardens are located right across from the train station. I recommend buying your train show tickets in advance as they do sell out. I bought my tickets for the timed entry a week in advance. You are free to explore the vast beautiful areas at the rest of the Botanical Garden while you are waiting to go into the Train Show. It is crowded while you go through the train show (no strollers are permitted) but you will want to take your time anyway. Most of the kids were in awe of the trains winding their way throughout the exhibit but I was mesmerized by all of the New York City landmarks that were constructed out of natural materials and plant life. It is truly amazing. If you have a chance, go and see this beautiful exhibit. I loved the whole Botanical Garden, we decided to put our tickets toward an annual family membership and I can’t wait to go back and explore the grounds during the different seasons.

This is just one of the many spectacular things going on in the city to ignite the spirit of the season. Hope you enjoy the pics. Happy Wednesday and Happy December =) Keep calm and remember to spike the eggnog!!
